University colleges of teacher education and universities

University colleges of teacher education educate and train prospective teachers in the first stage of their career, except for grammar schools and vocational schools. They only exist in Baden-Württemberg. In this part of Germany universities are responsible for education and training in the first phase for other school types. In all other parts of Germany Universities are responsible for education and training in the first phase for all school types.
