"The Styrian Monitoring Committee is an independent committee that monitors the compliance with and implementation of the rights of persons with disabilities as defined by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD). Persons with disabilities include those who have long-term physical, mental, intellectual, or sensory impairments which, in interaction with various barriers, may hinder their full and effective participation in society on an equal basis with others (Art. 1 sentence 2 UN CRPD). In 2008, Austria and Styria committed themselves to complying with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The Styrian Monitoring Committee has the legal task (in accordance with Section 53 of the Styrian Disability Act) of reviewing matters of federal-provincial implementation or of general importance for people with disabilities for their compatibility with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and submitting statements and recommendations to the federal-provincial government."
