"School psychology is available nationwide as a psychological counselling service for pupils, teachers, legal guardians, and school principals in the Austrian school system. There are counselling centres in all educational regions. Access to school psychological support services can be arranged through the school or directly by making an appointment with the regionally responsible counselling centre. The use of school psychology services is always voluntary and free of charge, and can also be confidential if desired. As part of the school authorities, school psychology also makes specialist contributions to the design and implementation of initiatives and reforms in the school system, whether at regional, federal-provincial, or national level. The school psychology counselling centres employ psychologists specially trained to work in the school sector, but often also other psychosocial support staff such as social workers or social education workers. There is also close cooperation with school doctors."
